As it’s almost Back to School time for our students from different countries, the lean period here at school is what we have now which we take it as a favorable time to have training and development program for our teachers.
We as teachers know that learning is not a one-time event! We believe in the power of continuous learning. Especially in the ESL industry. We meet different types of students with different kinds of needs that we need to provide. So developing our skills and improving our teaching strategies are things that we cannot leave out of the picture.
As ESL teachers, we are expected to overcome our own blind spots, old strategies, and styles, we are also expected to pull through the language barriers and explain the most complicated parts of the English language to people who are barely able to speak and understand it.
And the only way we can achieve that is through ongoing ESL training and development activities that teach us how to motivate and connect with our students. Developing and Learning training does more than help ESL teachers work more effectively—it helps us learn how to engage with students.
The goal of this training and development program is to help ourselves and our colleagues to become better ESL teachers. We have Native trainers who give the following training activities.
Teacher Karl gives Slang words training which is very important and unavoidable for us. It helps us to stay current and to have greater learning opportunities. One way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in it as much as possible. Learning slang terms is essential.
Teacher Bob gives Writing skills training to develop the writing skills of the teachers. Writing is one of the important ways of expressing your thoughts and communicating ideas and views of others. Helping your students to put their thoughts into words is a crucial thing for teachers.
Teacher Jeff provides Collocations and American Accent- discussion and explanation of collocations and American Accent are practical training for us. With this training, we can develop and strengthen our American accent and lose our local one.
When we say that someone ’speaks ‘a language fluently, we usually mean that they have a high level in all four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. But, as any teacher knows, learners often have strengths or weaknesses in particular skills, and in some cases can achieve high levels in, for example, reading and writing, while not being able to speak or listen at a comparable level. So for this season, we are developing ourselves with TOEIC skills as well.
TOEIC Grammar
Discussing grammar rules strategies from practical to technical.
TOEIC Reading
This training gives a detailed explanation of each topic in Reading section of the TOEIC course from vocabulary to grammar points and of course comprehension skill.
TOEIC Listening
This training develops the listening skill of the teachers. Listening is a Macro-Skill in language learning, it helps us to improve our language ability.
This kind of training program provides a great chance to have everyone shares ideas and strategies with each other.
It is also one of the most effective ways to make sure that everyone’s on the same page in terms of teaching goals, teaching styles and teaching strategies.
